Working With Waste

Perth & Kinross Council are working in partnership with a number of companies and organisations to help businesses reduce, reuse and recycle. Here we introduce some of our partners, and the services that they provide.

Abertay Centre for the Environment (ACE) Providing practical environmental assistance to small and medium businesses.

Larger companies have the resource to employ staff to deal specifically with the environmental issues that come their way. Issues like - reducing waste, exploiting green markets, investigating new technologies, reducing the amount of materials used, reducing water bills, dealing with new enforcement legislation.

Smaller businesses do not have this luxury and these issues are either not dealt with or are a burden. The result can be missed opportunities to benefit from cost savings, or to develop within growing environmental markets. However, help is currently available from the Abertay Centre for the Environment (ACE).

"Thanks to European Union Regional Development Fund support, ACE can offer free comprehensive assistance to eligible SMEs (small to medium enterprises, with 250 employees or less) and competitive rates to other organisations." says Mary Cowie, Business Development Manager for ACE.

"ACE offers assistance to SMEs across Eastern Scotland to access much needed practical expert help in developing new, more environmentally friendly products and services and achieving best practice in business by realising the value of environmental management and environmental awareness to the bottom line. ACE serves the East of Scotland business community by providing a simple one-stop-shop interface between local industry and the practical expertise of Scotland's top-rated University for environmental research."

Mary added, "ACE is based in a new, 'state-of-the-art' research centre on the University of Abertay Dundee's Bell Street campus. The facilities include well-equipped laboratories, a product development suite, office facilities and seminar rooms for SME use."

To access this help please call Business Development Manager, Ms Mary Cowie on 01382 308170. She can discuss if your business is eligible and how ACE can be of assistance.
