Fine Art & Fine Diningby Athole Murray Fleming
Of life's great pleasures, art and food are certainly in the top three or four. With wine being one of the others, the very popular Metzo Restaurant in Perth's George Street can now satisfy you on all of these joys. As for the fourth great pleasure? I will leave that to your imagination; however, you will have to go elsewhere for that one! Alison Ovenstone has recently introduced the concept of mixing fine art with fine food at Metzo, and she now has plans to hold seasonal exhibitions, each one with a particular theme, the current one being 'landscapes'. When Christina and I popped in for lunch recently, we were delighted to see a good number of paintings (all originals) adorning the walls ranging from £140 to £350. And that is superb value for any original artwork these days. Alison told us that she also plans to hold special 'art exhibition days' on the occasional Sunday, when visitors can come into Metzo, enjoy a glass of wine, see the latest art on display and meet and chat to the artists themselves. In fact, we did exactly that some months ago after buying a couple of paintings on display at Metzo by Jane Cruickshank, and it was certainly a very enjoyable afternoon. Metzo diners will very soon have information cards on every table, telling them about the currant display, the artists and the price for each work, so from now on, any visit to George Street will not only be a true gastronomic pleasure, but also an artistic delight.....oh and their wine is very good too!!
