There is a definite movement away from the stark contemporary look when it comes to fabrics and materials used around the home. From big pattern wallpapers to designer cushions, the trend is growing towards a more ‘in your face’ design style. To investigate this trend, I dropped in to Acorn Fabrics in Perth’s High Street to see what kind of ‘wow’ factor fabrics I could find there.

Well, if you want a big rose pattern, this modern design is based on a very classical theme. Perfect for a bedroom sanctuary, the luscious reds and the warm glowing gold will create your own little cocooned world.

This is a bit more contemporary, but still with a big strong pattern. Faux silk in French blue and brown design, so very ‘in’ right now. Would create a theatrical backdrop in an atmospheric dining room.

Okay, so you might think that your home is your castle, and here is the design for you! Diana the huntress. Pure classic French toile design. Candles burning and light dancing off the sheen…can you picture the scene? All you need now is the open fireplace.

One for the ladies I think, without being sexist. Romantic cottage feel, a country style to suite your stone built cottage as your thoughts meander across the fields as you view them from your Aga.

Well, my wife and I have bought from Acorn before and I was impressed by the range of designs, styles and fabrics on display as always. My only worry is that we are soon to start work on our own bedroom, and that mean more fabrics and money spent!
