The appliance of science in the kitchen

Appliances for the kitchen have come a long way from the simple oven hob and hood with stylish gadgets available to make our lives easier. Convenience and ease of use must be a starting point but fun factor and good looks is vital.
Create a talking point with a feature extractor. The latest models are more design conscious and thankfully no longer resemble an aircraft taking off when switched on. Down draft extractors are ideal for hobs on islands to avoid a bulky hood at eye line level or when an overhead extractor is not possible. They gracefully rise from the work surface with more than a hint of the space age.
When it comes to cooking appliances the choice is vast. Instead of the standard hob, include a feature like a Tepan in your design with sleek modern lines. A very sociable cook top which begs for everyone to get involved in the preparation process, it has a higher temperature in the centre of the appliance and more gentle heat around the edges to allow different foods to be cooked at different rates. Especially good for oriental cuisine but just as effective for a good slice of Aberdeen Angus. Domino hobs also provide a great deal of flexibility and allow a combination of
different cooking methods to be selected to create the ideal formula. Match a Wok hob with a 2 zone ceramic hob and a griddle or a steamer with an electric fryer, what ever works best for your needs.
Many ovens now have ‘Pyrolytic’ functions for self cleaning or try a combination microwave which has micro, grill and oven functions when space is at a premium.
For refrigeration, add an ice and water dispenser or try a wine fridge. These appliances come with dual zones so that red and white wine can be stored together at the perfect temperature. So with today’s modern appliances, try not to get too hung up on function and have some fun.
