With Christmas fast approaching and the dark nights closing in, the idea of a cosy family kitchen has strong appeal but what recipe is required to create such a winter haven. Cabinetry details such as a classic food larder, well stocked for the seasonal festivities with wicker baskets for fruit and vegetables and door back jar racks is a real treat at any time of year. Add a nostalgic touch with a Belfast sink and bridge tap but opting for lever handles rather than cross heads for practicality. No matter what the look, under cabinet lighting is important not only for providing good task lighting when preparing food on dark afternoons but adding an ambient glow to the room when the main light is out. When it comes to appliances, there is nothing quite like an AGA to cling to. A magnate to dogs, children, soggy jackets and socks wet from winter walks, it really is the heart of the home. Compliment this with the AGA refridgeration or opt for a fully integrated fridge freezer so that the appliance disappears from sight.
